Edo State Police Commissioner Mr Monday Agbonika says that his command has arrested and will be prosecuting 112 criminal suspects on allegations of cultism, kidnapping and murder soon.
He was speaking in Benin City where he announced the rescue of 37 victims of kidnapping from their abductors
“As you are all aware, I assumed duty on Tuesday, 8th April, 2025 as the 50th Commissioner of Police It was very clear that community inclusivity, and collaboration with both state and non-state actors was the way to go.
“Our collaborative and proactive strategies have led to the rescue of thirty-seven (37) kidnapped victims in daring operations which involved technical intelligence”.
According to Agbonika the Command retrieved twenty-five (25) firearms including two (2) AK 47 rifles, 130rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 135 live cartridges, as well as four (4) stolen/robbed vehicles among several items from the criminals.
He promised that while most of the cases have been charged to court, many others which are under investigation will subsequently be charged as well.
“We shall sustain engagement with communities, bush combing operations across area commands and divisions, intelligence-led raids of flashpoints and high visibility policing amongst many other strategies with a view to preventing crimes and maintain law and order in the State”.
He encouraged all stakeholders to continue cooperating with the police as it strive to surmount the security challenges experienced in the state.
