The Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS) and former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has credited his recent appointment to divine favour during a thanksgiving service held at Saint Paul Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City, on Sunday.
According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Ben Ogbemudia, Shaibu expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing him to lead the National Institute for Sports. He promised to reform and rebrand the institute in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, pledging to deliver results that would make the administration proud.
Speaking at the event, Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, congratulated Shaibu on his new role and expressed full confidence in his capability to fulfill the mandate. In response, Shaibu assured that both he and Idahosa would remain committed ambassadors of Edo State, dedicated to promoting the state’s image at the national level.
The thanksgiving service attracted several dignitaries, including Hon. Dennis Idahosa, former Chief of Staff to the Edo State Government, Hon. Taiwo Akerele, and Hon. Donald Okogbe, member representing Akoko-Edo Constituency II, among others. A reception was later held at Shaibu’s residence on Adeyan Avenue, where friends, political associates, and well-wishers gathered to celebrate his appointment.
