Edo State Government has disbursed a ₦2 million compensation cheque to Mr. Felix Jude Iredia, a victim of the devastating rainstorm that hit Benin City on February 20, 2025.

Presenting the cheque, the Executive Secretary of the Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EdoSEMA), Hon. Jerry Idahosa, stated that the relief fund is part of the government’s commitment to provide timely disaster relief support to rainstorm victims in Edo State.

The heavy rainstorm caused a billboard tower to collapse near the Mobil Filling Station along the Ekenwan-Siluko Interlink Road, Benin City, resulting in the total destruction of Mr. Iredia’s vehicle. Following the incident, EdoSEMA conducted an immediate on-the-spot assessment, which recommended prompt financial support to the affected resident.

Idahosa said, “This ₦2 million compensation is a humanitarian gesture to cushion the devastating impact suffered by Mr. Iredia due to the February rainstorm. The Edo State Government under Governor Monday Okpebholo remains committed to providing disaster relief assistance and ensuring residents get timely support when natural disasters occur.”

In his response, Mr. Iredia expressed profound gratitude, saying, “This support has restored hope for me and my family. On that day, my car was destroyed beyond recognition. I sincerely thank Governor Okpebholo and EdoSEMA for this life-changing intervention.”
