Edo State Government has condemned recent media attacks targeting Mrs Edith Sede, the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Benin City describing them as baseless and malicious attempts to discredit a committed public servant.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, the government expressed concern over “unsubstantiated allegations” being circulated in parts of the media, which it said were clearly aimed at tarnishing the image of the Permanent Secretary.

According to the statement, the Permanent Secretary Mrs Edith Sede has “consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to professionalism, integrity, and the efficient discharge of duties” in line with the Governor’s transformative agenda for the state. It emphasized that her record of service remains exemplary, and her contributions to the smooth running of government operations are of significant value.

“These attacks appear to be ill-motivated and designed to distract from the substantive work of governance,” the statement said. “The Edo State Government stands firmly behind the Permanent Secretary and rejects outright any baseless assertions intended to tarnish her reputation or undermine the trust reposed in her.”

The government also issued a caution to media practitioners, urging them to adhere to the highest standards of ethical journalism by verifying facts before publication and avoiding the spread of falsehoods perpetrated by faceless groups.

“The focus of this administration remains steadfast on delivering tangible benefits to the people of Edo State,” Itua stated. “We will not be detracted by mischievous campaigns.”

The government reaffirmed its support for all its dedicated personnel working to drive progress and maintain transparency within the civil service.
