The Edo State Police Command has unveiled immediate reform measures to sanitize its operations, particularly the Anti-Money Laundering Unit, following rising concerns of police harassment and extortion circulating on social media.

In a statement signed by CSP Moses Joel Yamu, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the Command noted that the initiative is part of efforts by the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, to address public complaints and restore confidence in the police force.

According to Yamu, CP Agbonika ordered the following measures:

1. Mandatory Identification: All police tactical teams, area commands, and special squads must now have their name tags permanently sewn onto their uniforms.

2. Proper Vehicle Identification: All unmarked vehicles used by these teams must display stickers on the front and both sides while on assignments.

3. POS Transactions Regulation: POS operators are advised to exercise caution when dealing with police officers in unmarked vehicles, ensuring they collect the officers’ details for records before any transaction.

Additionally, the Command has commenced immediate retraining of officers across all formations in the state to align them with best practices.

The Commissioner warned that any police team or officer violating these directives will face strict sanctions, with the X-Squad tasked to enforce compliance.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any acts of extortion or harassment through the following hotlines:
