The Catholic Church has called for prayers for the quick recovery of a priest who was shot over the weekend.

The Catholic Bishop of Makurdi, Most Revd Wilfred Chikpa Anagbe, CMF, urged the faithful around the world to pray for the recovery of Revd Fr. Solomon Atongo. This was contained in a statement issued by Revd Fr. Shima Ukpanya, Chancellor of the Diocese.

Bishop Anagbe appealed for “your prayers for the quick recovery of one of our priests, Revd Fr. Solomon Atongo,” who was attacked and shot around Tyolaha, along the Makurdi-Naka Road in Gwer West Local Government Area, by suspected terrorist herdsmen.

He added, “Let us unite in prayer for God’s healing upon him as the medics try to stabilize him. May Our Lady, Mother of Perpetual Help, intercede for us.”
