Team Edo has recorded an impressive performance at the 22nd National Sports Festival held in Ogun State, clinching a total of 177 medals, according to festival officials.
The medal breakdown shows 41 gold, 72 silver, and 64 bronze medals, earned across various sports disciplines. This remarkable achievement underscores Edo State’s continuing investment in grassroots sports development and athlete preparation.
A closer look at the medal tally reveals that Weightlifting was Team Edo’s strongest suit, contributing 4 gold, 20 silver, and 9 bronze medals for a total of 33 medals. This was followed closely by Gymnastics, which delivered 10 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze — a total of 19 medals.
Kung Fu also emerged as a stronghold, garnering 22 medals comprising 4 gold, 6 silver, and 12 bronze. In Para Powerlifting, Edo athletes secured 12 medals, with 2 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze.
While some sports like Boxing, Football, and Table Tennis did not yield any medals, others such as Kick Boxing, Cycling, and Taekwondo contributed significantly to the overall tally.
In total, Team Edo participated in 34 medal-yielding sports, with at least one medal won in 26 of them.
