Foremost Nigerian physician and public health advocate, Dr. Owen Omo-Ojo, has been honoured with two prestigious national awards in recognition of her outstanding contributions to healthcare delivery and youth empowerment in Nigeria.

Dr. Omo-Ojo, Chief Executive Officer of HIGC Health Consultants, was conferred with the Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardauna Distinguished Platinum Award of Excellence as an Icon of Societal Transformation by the National Association of Northern Nigerian Students (NANNS).

She also received the Achiever Par Excellence Award, a Certificate of Appreciation for Community Service, and a Gold Medal of Honour from the Democratic Youth Assembly of Nigeria (DYAN).

The awards highlight Dr. Omo-Ojo’s over 14 years of consistent service in clinical practice, medical entrepreneurship, and public health administration—particularly through her leadership in rural medical outreaches and health system consulting.

A trained medical doctor from IP Pavlov State Medical University, Russia, and a Commonwealth Scholar with a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Liverpool, Dr. Omo-Ojo has served in leading Nigerian Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) and a North American health tech startup before founding HIGC Health Consultants, a social enterprise committed to equitable healthcare delivery.

HIGC offers services in hospital, pharmacy, and laboratory management, as well as the setup of remote and offshore clinics. The organisation also supports health insurance advisory, health systems consulting, and medical supplies distribution across Nigeria.

In addition to her professional pursuits, Dr. Omo-Ojo is known for her passionate advocacy for universal health coverage and safe motherhood, and for mentoring thousands of young African medical professionals. She is a strong supporter of student medical associations including NIMSA and FAMSA.

Speaking after receiving the awards, Dr. Omo-Ojo expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed her commitment to improving public health outcomes in underserved communities.

Dr. Omo-Ojo is also a member of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Healthcare Federation of Nigeria, Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association, and Toastmasters International.

Her latest awards further solidify her reputation as a leading voice in grassroots healthcare and youth mentorship, as Nigerians continue to call on more professionals to emulate her dedication and service-driven leadership.
