Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has appealed to the public to stop invoking painful memories surrounding the death of his wife.
Describing her passing as traumatic for both himself and his children, the governor said he remains focused on his duties and will not be distracted from serving the people of Akwa Ibom.
He was reacting to a recently resurfaced viral video in which one of his daughters, Jane, is seen emotionally asking the governor whether he wanted her to die like her mother. The video, which circulated widely online, has sparked various interpretations and fueled speculation about a rift within the governor’s family.
However, speaking to Government House correspondents, Governor Eno dismissed the rumours and insisted that his family is united. He explained that the video was from last year, shortly after his wife’s death, and questioned the motives behind its resurfacing just before the second anniversary of his administration.
“We are in political times, so you expect more of this. My family is intact, and you can see everyone here with me,” he said. “This teaches me that there are detractors around. Jane herself is here—that’s Helen and her husband. We have a good family.”
The governor emphasized the need to allow his family to grieve and heal privately, urging the public and political actors not to exploit personal tragedies for sensationalism.
