The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has issued a serious advisory concerning the extreme temperatures currently being experienced during Hajj 2025, with forecasts ranging between 40°C and 47°C.
In light of this, pilgrims have been strongly advised to stay hydrated by drinking water frequently and to carry water bottles and umbrellas if it becomes absolutely necessary to venture outdoors during peak heat hours.
Following a recent stakeholders’ meeting held in Makkah, the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has instructed all Edo pilgrims to remain inside their tents in Mina and Arafat between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the hottest part of the day.
Chairman of the Board, Mallam Musah Muhammad Uduimoh, and Executive Secretary, Alhaji Eranga Abdulkabir Muhammad Kabir, emphasized that the directive was part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of Edo pilgrims currently participating in the 2025 Hajj.
According to Uduimoh, “We are constantly in touch with our pilgrims and monitoring the situation in Makkah closely. Part of ensuring their well-being involves continuous guidance and preparation for the Hajj rites, even as they are on ground.”
He noted that the Board recently hosted a mandatory Hajj lecture in Makkah. The session was aimed at equipping pilgrims with the knowledge and understanding of the Hajj rites, with a strong focus on practical guidance and welfare.
The Board also issued additional advice to help pilgrims cope with challenges posed by limited facilities in Mina and Arafat. With the high number of pilgrims, long queues for essential amenities like toilets are expected.
Uduimoh explained, “We are strongly advising our pilgrims to practice moderation in their eating habits, in line with the Prophetic guidance of allocating a third of the stomach for food, a third for water, and a third for air.”
He further urged pilgrims to be mindful of their consumption of juice, fruits, and sweets, and to plan toilet visits strategically to avoid discomfort.
