President Bola Tinubu has said that as the country marks 26 years of civil rule it is right to honour those Nigerians who made sacrifices in the past to ensure the nation has a democracy.
He said this when he announced national honours for some Nigerians including many from Edo State when he addressed members of the National Assembly on the democracy day 2025.
He said, “As we mark a twenty-sixth year of unbroken democracy, it is right to honour those who have made sacrifices in the past, braving all the odds and guns to ensure we have a regime of democracy in our country”.
Those who were honored from Edo State are:
Odia Ofeimun (CON)
Nosa Igiebor (OON)
Hon Abdul Oroh (OON)
Prof. Julius Ihonvbere (CON)
Professor Festus Iyayi (CON).
According to the President, “In conclusion, let us rededicate ourselves to the ideals of June 12; freedom, transparent and accountable government, social justice, active citizen participation, and a just society where no one is oppressed”.
He said, “Happy Democracy Day, and may God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria and protect our troops”.
