A medical outreach organised by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU chapter at Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA), is targeting over 400 teaching staff for health screenings.
The outreach will see lecturers take tests for blood pressure, BMI, eye health, lipid profile, full blood count, and hepatitis screening.
ASUU President, Professor Chris Piwuna, speaking at the event raised the alarm over what he called the rising death toll among university lecturers, especially in the last three months.
The University’s Vice Chancellor, represented by Professor Aleruchi Chuku, stressed the importance of good health for academic productivity.
Dr. Sunday Orinya, ASUU FULAFIA Chairman, emphasized that staff welfare is a top priority, while Professor Ishaku Bako expressed concern over lecturers collapsing from stress.
The outreach was praised by staff members, who urged continued efforts to safeguard the health of academics across Nigeria.
