Queen of Afrobeats Tiwa Savage 45, stirred emotions at the Meltdown Festival in London on Saturday after she paused her performance to acknowledge her former English teacher whom she spotted in the crowd.
In a viral video making the rounds online om Sunday, the 45-year-old was seen beaming with excitement as she recognised the elderly man in the audience.She quickly walked off the stage and into the crowd to embrace him.
“The person that made me love literature,” she said while introducing him to the crowd, drawing loud cheers from the audience.
The touching moment sparked reactions online, with many praising Tiwa for showing gratitude.
Reacting to the video, an Instagram user wrote: “The little girl in her came out “.Another user added: “Her eyes sharp oo! What a lovely moment.”
“Teachers are actually national treasures. They make other superstars yet they are hardly recognised for their accomplishments in building the society,” another wrote.
Tiwa performed at the Southbank Centre as part of the annual Meltdown Festival, which was this year curated by British-Nigerian rapper Little Simz.
Known for her electrifying stage presence, the 44-year-old thrilled the crowd with a mix of her biggest hits including ‘Somebody’s Son’, ‘Koroba’ and ‘Gbese’.
Born on February 5, 1980, Tiwa Savage moved to the UK at the age of 11.She started her music career doing backup vocals for George Michael and later Mary J. Blige before returning to Nigeria to pursue her solo career.
Tiwa, who is often referred to as the Queen of Afrobeats, has won several awards including the 2018 MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act and multiple Headies and AFRIMA awards.
