The Edo State Police Command has successfully exhumed the decomposed corpse of a 56-year-old farmer, Henry Ohiengbonmwan, who was kidnapped and murdered last month on his farm at Igueze Community in Ovia North East Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the breakthrough came following the arrest of one Bassey Nyong Umeh, 33, from Oron Community in Akwa Ibom State. He is suspected to be one of the five-man gang responsible for the heinous crime.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with four others — who are currently at large — to kidnap, murder, and bury the victim in a shallow grave on his own farm. The deceased had reportedly hired the men to work for him before falling victim to their plot.

The police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and bring them to justice.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, has advised farmers and business owners to properly profile and verify the background of individuals before engaging them as workers, to avoid falling prey to criminal elements.
