The Benin Recreation Club (BRC1933), one of Nigeria’s oldest and most prestigious social and sporting institutions, has embarked on a new era of transformation under the dynamic leadership of its current President, Mr. Osayi Courage Osamuyi.
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Edoko Wilson, the club with Mr. Osamuyi at the helm has had comprehensive overhaul of its infrastructure and operations, aimed at modernizing facilities and enhancing member experience. Among the notable improvements are the complete remodeling of restrooms, the acquisition of a new power generator, and the integration of the club into the Ossiomo power grid, significantly boosting power reliability. In addition, the installation of street lighting across the club premises has enhanced safety and nighttime visibility.
Under his administration, BRC1933 has expanded its recreational offerings with the construction of new badminton and volleyball courts. Plans are already underway to add squash and basketball courts, as well as a dedicated pavilion for board and card games. The children’s playground has also been upgraded to offer a safer, family-friendly environment.
Digital transformation is at the core of the new administration’s agenda. The club has adopted digital signage to enhance visibility and public communication, while its internal management systems have been fully digitalized—streamlining operations and improving financial accountability.
The club’s social calendar has been revitalized with innovative events like the monthly Green Heineken Night, sponsored by Nigerian Breweries’ Heineken brand, and Aerobics Weekends led by certified fitness instructors. These activities have not only promoted healthy living but also fostered stronger bonds among members.
Aesthetic enhancements have also been prioritized. The club’s main entrance and bus stop area have been redesigned, giving BRC1933 a more welcoming and upscale appeal. In the spirit of collaboration, the club has launched inter-club tournaments, forging relationships with leading recreational clubs across the country.
According to members of the 2025 Executive Committee, these sweeping reforms reflect a shared vision to reposition BRC1933 as a world-class relaxation and recreational center in the South-South region and beyond.
Founded in 1933, the Benin Recreation Club remains a beacon of social engagement and athletic excellence in Edo State, steadfast in its mission to provide premium leisure, sports, and networking opportunities to its members and guests.
