Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Dr. Amen Ogbemudia as the Director-General of the Directorate of Education Quality Assurance (DEQA).
The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated June 18, 2025, and signed by Mr. Umar Musa Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government.
According to the letter, Dr. Ogbemudia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Benson Idahosa University, a Master’s degree in Educational Management from the University of Benin, and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration.
The Edo State Directorate of Education Quality Assurance was established in July 2023 via an Executive Order to monitor and oversee all levels of non-tertiary education in the state, with a particular emphasis on supervising private basic, secondary, and technical schools.
The creation of the Directorate aimed at underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child in Edo State receives a high-quality education.
Its responsibilities include assessing and maintaining standards across Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Adult Education, Basic Education, Secondary Education, and Technical and Vocational Education.
The Directorate plays a pivotal role in addressing critical issues such as teacher presence in classrooms, quality of instruction, student attendance, and learning outcomes.
By creating the Directorate, the government aims to optimize available resources and foster better synergy among the three boards responsible for managing education—SUBEB, SSEB, and BTVET.
