The coronation of King Michael Eshioronoya Olorunfemi Sado, as the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Eveva Primary School, Okugbe-Okpella, Edo State.
The Okuokpellagbe-in-Council, in an announcement signed by High Chief Hanson Aimofumeh, Chairman of the Planning Committee the ceremony will begin at 10:00 am prompt with Governor Monday Okpebholo, as special guest of honour.
King Michael Sado emerged as Okuokpellagbe in May 2025 after a electoral process involving twenty-four royal kingmakers held at Imiokewa Town Hall, Ogule-Oke.
He polled sixteen votes out of eleven contestants to emerge the preferred candidate of the kingmakers, who were drawn from the five sub-clans of Okpella. His selection followed the deposition of the former occupant, Alhaji Andrew Yesufu Lukman Akemokue, by the Edo State Government, which cited violations of traditional norms and succession procedures.
Shortly after the kingmakers’ vote, Sado performed customary installation rites and subsequently received the staff of office and letter of appointment from the state government on May 14, 2025.
The Okuokpellagbe-elect hails from the Ukhumoyio ruling house and is a direct descendant of the revered King Eshioronoya. Although his selection was met with protests from some quarters claiming procedural breaches, the state government affirmed his legitimacy and has thrown its full support behind the coronation.
The Planning Committee urged guests and well-wishers to honour the invitation and join the Okpella community in celebrating a new era of peace and unity under the reign of King Michael Sado.
