Speaker Abbas Condemns Massacre of 12 Travellers in Plateau

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen has described as a barbaric and senseless act of violence, the brutal killing of 12 travelers from Basawa community of Zaria in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a press statement released by his media office, Speaker Abbas expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. He said security agencies must urgently investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Correspondent reports that victims were among a group of 31 passengers traveling in a bus belonging to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. They were en route to Qua’an Pan Local Government Area for a wedding ceremony when they were ambushed around 8 p.m. on Friday night, killed and set their remains ablaze inside the vehicle, with others injured.

“This horrific attack is both condemnable and unacceptable.The killings of Nigerians in whatever guise must stop forthwith. We cannot continue to watch our compatriots being slaughtered in such cruel and barbaric manner.”

Speaker Abbas offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the victims and asked Allah (SWT) to grant their families the strength to bear the irreparable loss. He also prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.
