The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed over 4,226.11kg of skunk in a major anti-narcotics operation at Ugbada Camp, Uzebba forest, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

According to a statement by Femi Babafemi, Director, Media & Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, the raid, conducted on Friday, June 20, targeted a large cannabis cultivation hub and led to the arrest of 33-year-old Albert Shamaki, a key suspect in the illegal drug trade.

He said the day before, Thursday, June 19, NDLEA operatives stormed the Big Jamaya Supermarket located in Emado community, Esan West LGA, where 28-year-old Esther Abumere was apprehended.

A variety of illicit drugs including Colorado, Loud, Molly, Tramadol, and other opioids were recovered during the operation, highlighting the increasing spread of synthetic and psychoactive substances in rural communities.

Further intensifying its war on drug cartels, the agency also raided a provision shop at Idumeka, Igueben, resulting in the seizure of 1.143kg of skunk and the arrest of 38-year-old Eko Gift.

These coordinated raids underscore NDLEA’s commitment to eradicating drug peddling networks and safeguarding communities from the harmful impact of illicit drugs.

The NDLEA, under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), continues to deploy intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling cannabis plantations and drug distribution points across Nigeria.

The Agency urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious drug activities as part of a collective national effort to combat drug abuse and trafficking.
