According to Reuters, Ofili notified the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) that her decision was motivated by years of neglect and ill-treatment at the hands of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
Notably, AFN and Nigeria Anti-Doping Committee (NADC) failure to conduct the required test, which resulted in her and 13 other athletes missing the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Along with AFN and the Nigeria Olympic Committee’s (NOC) failure to submit her name for the women’s 100m event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Ofili additionally petitioned the AIU, stating that her decision to switch to Turkey was prompted by frustration rather than financial motivations.
If granted, Ofili must wait a minimum of 3 years to represent Turkey as per World Athletics’ transfer of allegiance regulation.
As of now, no official confirmation has been provided by the AFN, Turkish Athletics Federation, or World Athletics, and Ofili’s profile still shows Nigeria.
The situation remains unconfirmed and may be developing.
