Dr. Mkor Aondona, Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He is being investigated for alleged involvement in sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, confirmed the suspension in a statement on Sunday. He said the governor acted swiftly after receiving a petition lodged with the EFCC accusing Aondona of multiple criminal offences.
According to the petition, several female students alleged that Dr. Aondona recruited slim and attractive young women for ushering jobs, demanding sexual favours as a prerequisite. The petitioners further alleged that he secretly recorded sexual encounters without their consent and later used the videos to blackmail them through various messaging platforms.
The EFCC arrested Aondona on Friday, June 20, 2025, in Makurdi. Some of the explicit videos he allegedly used for blackmail are said to be in circulation. The anti-graft agency has confirmed that he will be charged to court.
Governor Alia, in response, stated that his administration remains committed to upholding integrity, accountability, and discipline in public service. He warned that any official found guilty of criminal or unethical conduct will face the full weight of the law.
He emphasized that public office is a call to serve with honour, transparency, and responsibility. The suspended aide is expected to fully cooperate with legal authorities.
The Benue State Government reiterated its commitment to defending the rights and dignity of all citizens, especially women and vulnerable groups, and pledged continued cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.
