The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has responded with strong words to comments made by Chris Nehikhare of the factional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee, who had dismissed Governor Monday Okpebholo’s recent declaration to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections as “comical.”
In a press release signed by the Edo APC State Publicity Secretary, Barr. Peter Uwadiae Igbinigie, the party described Nehikhare’s reaction as “rambling,” accusing the PDP spokesman of engaging in mockery and misinformation in a desperate bid to remain politically relevant.
According to the statement, “In typical PDP fashion, Nehikhare chose mockery over facts, distortion over reason, and desperation over truth. His party was thoroughly rejected at the September 2024 polls, and no amount of revisionist history or baseless accusations of rigging can change that outcome.”
The APC maintained that Governor Okpebholo’s vote projection is not mere rhetoric, but rooted in the growing popularity of the APC in Edo State, driven by aggressive grassroots mobilization and renewed faith in the Tinubu-led federal administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The party also took a swipe at the PDP’s past administration in the state, stating, “The PDP wasted eight years sinking Edo deeper into debt, deceit, and decay. In contrast, the APC is focused on rebuilding trust, reviving infrastructure, and restoring governance with purpose and integrity.”
Barr. Igbinigie emphasized that Governor Okpebholo’s commitment is anchored on “performance, not propaganda,” insisting that Edo voters have moved past PDP’s “lies and looting,” and are now engaging directly in governance through the APC’s people-focused approach.
He concluded by describing Nehikhare’s comments as “a delusional comedy routine,” while affirming that the APC remains committed to the serious business of governance, development, and electoral victory.
