Akwa Ibom State Government has announced the approval for the recruitment of 3,000 new workers across key sectors of the state’s workforce — civil service, healthcare, and education — with each sector receiving 1,000 slots.
This major employment drive was revealed by the State Head of Civil Service (HOCS), Elder Effiong Essien, during the 2025 Public Service Week Celebration in Uyo. According to him, the recruitment follows the successful completion of a comprehensive public servants verification exercise ordered last year by Governor Umo Eno.
“I want to gladly report that arising from the verification exercise, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the recruitment of 3,000 workers into the public service of Akwa Ibom — 1,000 into the main civil service, 1,000 medical personnel, and 1,000 into the teaching service,” Elder Essien announced.
Additionally, Governor Eno has approved the release of the 2025 promotion exercise for all eligible public servants and the disbursement of N2.5 billion to clear the backlog of the 7.5% contributory pension scheme suspended since 2013.
Commending the governor’s consistent support for workers, the Head of Service described Governor Umo Eno as “workers-friendly,” citing key welfare initiatives including the implementation of an N80,000 new minimum wage, and the allocation of 150 two-bedroom flats at Grace Estate to junior-level civil servants.
This recruitment and welfare package is part of the administration’s ongoing commitment to improving public sector efficiency, workers’ welfare, and addressing the employment gap in Akwa Ibom State.
