The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, alongside the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, members of the Sports Commission board, and other stakeholders, will join participants across the country to celebrate the 2025 International Olympic Day Run on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
International Olympic Day is a global celebration of sport and physical activity, marked annually on June 23 to commemorate the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894 — the birth of the modern Olympic Games. However, this year’s event in Nigeria will be observed on June 28.
Confirming Edo State’s participation, Enabulele, in a statement released Wednesday by his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, expressed the Commission’s preparedness and called on athletes, coaches, secretaries, Commission staff, and the general public to join the run.
According to him, the race will kick off at 7:00 AM from the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, follow a route through Ekenwan Road, Plymouth Road, and Akenzua Road, before returning to the stadium, where certificates of participation will be presented to all runners.
“This global event celebrates more than just sports. It promotes healthy living, fitness, unity, and community wellness. Let us all come together to run for health, run for peace, and run for unity,” Enabulele stated.
He also issued a special appeal to the youth: “Let me use this opportunity to call on our youths to come out and participate in the Olympic Day Run. We all need to stay active through sports — it’s essential for our physical health and well-being.”
