Edo State Government has launched an education programme aimed at taking children off the streets and returning them to classrooms. it is called Project Edu Rescue.
The Project is in response to the increasing number of school-age children seen on the streets, in markets, and public spaces during school hours.
The initiative seeks to identify these vulnerable children, understand their individual circumstances, and reintegrate them into the education system, ensuring no child is left behind.
Flaging-off the project in Benin City Governor Monday Okpebholo Governor of Edo State said the initiative to address the alarming rise in out-of-school children across the Edo State.
Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to quality and inclusive education, stating: “Every child in Edo State must have access to quality education in quality buildings from quality teachers.”
The pilot phase of the project will involve grassroots community outreach, identifying out-of-school children, and engaging their families to facilitate their return to school.
With its successful launch, the programme is set to expand to all 18 local government areas of Edo State, under the supervision of the State Ministry of Education and in collaboration with stakeholders across the education sector.
